F.A.Q.

Benefits of the program
We offer high school and pre-university courses for grades 9-12. Each grade level has its specific course and courses codes. However, some courses may not be available at some of the locations. Check with our office to see what courses are available at your location.

Who can join?
Torah 4 Teens is open to high school students of grades 9 through 12. You do not have to be observant or have Jewish knowledge to join Torah 4 Teens. All Jewish students are welcome regardless of background, Jewish observance or affiliation.

How do I receive credits?
Students are to complete 110 hours of the required course time.

Will this credit be on my report card from School?
No, being that you are not taking this course at your home school, your school will not include this mark on your report card. However you will receive a report card from our school.

Will this mark affect my grade average?
The reports we issue are sent to your home school and placed in your OSR (Ontario Student Record). Schools vary in their policy of including this mark into the average.

Will this course affect my acceptance into university?
Absolutely. We send our grade 12 marks directly to OUAC / OCAS and early acceptance as well as scholarships may depend on this mark.

If I take this course can I drop one of my courses at school?
By taking this course for four years you will receive one credit per year for four credits. You may consider substituting a course offered at your school with ours, however please do consult with your school guidance to know what is in your best interest.

I don’t need an extra credit, should I still take this course?
This course is about Jewish education, atmosphere and identity. Every Jewish teenager regardless of their standing with their school credits should be enrolled in this course. The credits are a perk. For more on what teens have gained in this course above and beyond the credits please take a moment and read our testimonials.

Tell me more about the 110 hours required.
The 110 hours are divided in two parts. The first part is the two-hour a week of in-class time. Completing the two-hours a week of in-class time will earn the student 85 hours of the 110 required hours. The second part is comprised of our Shabbatons and retreats by completing this part of the program the student will earn the additional 25 hours in hands on applied study.

Tell me about class time.
Torah 4 Teens has developed an exciting curriculum based on the Bible. The course covers a range of topics such as G-d and creation, kosher food and it’s effects, being Jewish in modern times, and more. The curriculum is enriched with biblical commentaries, Jewish mysticism and Kabbala. Classes are held once a week and are divided into two separate fifty five minute periods.

Completing the 3rd hour.
Please note: The hours you receive for participating in the 3rd hour programs are only for the educational content included in the program. The additional non-educational hours of extra fun or leisure are not counted toward the 3 hour option or 110 required hours.

Are there exams and quizzes?
Quizzes will be given, and note taking will be marked to assess comprehension and participation. Mid-term and final exam or projects will be given as well to meet Ministry credit requirements.

When and where are the classes?
Classes are once a week from Monday to Thursday. Your class day depends on your grade level and the location of your program. Classes begin the 1st week of September and conclude in June.

The material includes a range of topics such as the history of the Jewish people, Jewish tradition, rituals and observances, Jewish holidays and practices, kosher food and its effects on our mind and body. Classes will also deal with issues of interest such as Torah and science, Torah and the contemporary world, Jewish continuity and marriage, the Holy Land of Israel. The goal is to help teens grow to appreciate and understand Jewish heritage, culture and tradition.
